Thinning Hair? What you need to know – HairMax UK

Most of us shed hair pretty much all of the time. Sometimes though a larger-than-usual clump of hair, trapped in your brush or clogging your shower might make you wonder if you are losing your hair permanently. So what is behind thinning hair or hair loss?

First, Shedding Is Normal
Hair goes through cycles, where is grows and then falls out. You can expect to lose between 50 and 150 hairs daily.

The Hair Growth Cycle
The hair growth cycle consists of three phases: Growth (Anagen), Resting (Telogen) and Transition (Catagen).

The Anagen Phase is the growing period of a hair follicle. Your hair grows around half an inch a month, and faster in the summer than in winter. The growth phase, or Anagen Phase, lasts an average of 3-5 years, so a full-length hair averages 18 to 30 inches.

At the end of the Anagen Phase, your hair enters the Catagen Phase. This is a short transitional phase that lasts approximately 10 days. The Catagen Phase is the intermediate period of hair growth and Hair follicles prepare themselves for the resting phase. It lasts around 1-2 weeks. During this phase, the deeper portions of the hair follicles start to collapse.

Lastly, your hair enters the Telogen Phase, a resting phase when your hair is released and falls out. The follicle then remains inactive for 3 months and the whole process is repeated.
Each hair follicle is independent and goes through the growth cycle at different times, otherwise all your hair would fall out at once.

Causes of temporary hair loss
You can avoid hair loss and promote regrowth if hair loss is temporarily caused by:

* Tight hairstyles. Tight ponytails, braids and cornrows can all cause hair loss and damage the follicles, which regulate hair growth. Changing hairstyles can help prevent thinning. But beware: When the follicles sustain too much damage, hair loss can be permanent.
* Extreme physical shock/stress. Dramatic changes in the body can cause temporary hair loss. Giving birth, rapid weight loss, surgery and certain illnesses may cause more hair loss than usual, typically in the resting phase. But hair should grow back over time.
* Medical therapies and toxic substances. Chemotherapy, certain other drugs and radiation treatments can prompt hair loss, mainly in the growth phase. Hair loss can strike suddenly, anywhere in the body. It is typically temporary (unless the follicles are damaged).
* Nutritional deficiencies. Not getting enough iron, protein or vitamin B12 in your diet can also cause your hair to thin. If this happens to you, talk to your doctor about supplements.

Causes of permanent hair loss
Hormonal imbalances before, during and after menopause can lead to permanent hair loss. Also Female pattern baldness is largely genetic, affecting hair along the top of a woman’s head. This typically begins when Estrogen levels drop.

How to combat hair loss as you age
The healthier your body, the healthier your hair ! Basic tips for staying healthy and having healthy hair include:

* Exercising regularly

How HairMax works
HairMax energises and stimulates hair follicles in the Catagen (transition) and Telogen (resting) phases causing a new Anagen hair to be formed.

HairMax provides energy for healthier hair follicle stimulating more rapid hair growth and stimulates the root to produce a new healthier hair follicle. HairMax helps to reverse the process of miniaturisation and stimulates the growth of denser, fuller, healthier hair.
